Clayton Miller, a young and promising athlete from North Naples, Florida, tragically lost his life on Saturday, March 15, after being struck by an SUV while riding an electric bicycle near Lakeland Avenue and Madison Drive in the Willoughby Acres neighborhood. His passing has deeply impacted his family, friends, teammates, and the entire Naples community.
From an early age, Clayton was immersed in sports, dedicating much of his life to the Naples Hurricanes football team. He began his journey with the team at just five years old, spending nine seasons and eight years playing with unwavering passion and determination. From Tiny Mites through 13U, he was a crucial part of the Hurricanes’ history, even earning the title of National Champion.
Clayton’s achievements on the football field were nothing short of extraordinary. He was a four-time Peace River Champion, a Regional Champion, and ultimately a National Champion. But his talents extended far beyond football. He excelled in track and field, flag football, and baseball, displaying a level of athleticism that set him apart. His hard work and dedication also carried over to his academics, as he was named an All-American Scholar last season.
Wearing the #7 jersey since his very first season, Clayton embodied the spirit of a dedicated athlete and an exceptional teammate. His legacy is one of perseverance, leadership, and sportsmanship, and he was set to begin high school this fall with a bright future ahead of him.
Clayton’s tragic passing is an immeasurable loss to his family and the Naples community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, as well as in the legacy he leaves behind on and off the field.
